The existence of bias in the behaviour of institutions is something that can be substantiated by evidence. Its nature, scope, and effects can be described by data. Institutional bias assessments aim to create that body of data so organizations can understand and contextualize the existence or absence of bias in its actions, identify routes for to address issues, and implement meaningful and measurable changes where harmful (unlawful or unethical) bias has been found.

Being an effective and respectful ally, whether you have social privileges or not, is a learned skillset. It is important to consider how you intervene in the struggles of others, not just whether to intervene at all.
